Korea's Leading PC Supplier To Ship LS-120-equipped PCs During Second Quarter OAKDALE, Minn. (April 21, 1997) -- Samsung Electronics Company Ltd., Korea, has announced plans to equip selected new PC models with LS-120 diskette drives. Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN), the new imaging and information company recently spun-off by 3M, manufactures and markets the 3M-brand LS-120 Diskette and was one of the co-developers of the technology. Samsung Electronics plans to offer the backward-compatible LS-120 drives in two new models of its MagicStation M560D family of multimedia PCs during the second quarter of this year. Samsung Electronics is Korea's leading PC manufacturer, and its MagicStation line is marketed exclusively in Korea. "We recognize that 1.44 MB diskettes have limitations in the current computing environment," said Uhm Kyu-Ho, manager, product planning division, Samsung Electronics. "I am convinced that our new models with LS-120 technology will be the best choice to meet our customers' needs for speed, storage capacity and multimedia functionality." Other LS-120 companies include Compaq Computer Corp., O.R. Technology, Fujitsu ICL, Exabyte, Hitachi-Maxell, Ltd., Matsushita-Kotobuki Electronics Industries Ltd. (MKE), Mitsubishi Electric Corp., Vobis AG, and Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG.
